Praised by The New York Times for his “elegant and sensitive” playing, pianist Qi Kong was the first prize winner of the 2022 Chicago International Music Competition, the 2016 Mieczyslaw Munz International Piano Competition in New York City, and the 2013 Aspen Music Festival Piano Concerto Competition. He is also a classical piano fellow of the Chicago Luminarts Cultural Foundation.

Kong has performed throughout the United States as well as in Europe and China, including concerts at Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Jordan Hall and Sanders Theatre in Boston, Benedict Music Tent in Aspen, Newmark Theatre in Portland, Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and Shanghai Concert Hall among others. He has collaborated with the Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra (Brahms); Boston Landmarks Orchestra (Grieg); New York’s Jupiter Symphony (Stravinsky and Kapustin); Northwestern University Chamber Orchestra (Chopin); and Compagnie Marie Chouinard from Quebec.


Born in China, Kong began playing the piano when he was four years old and completed his early training in Shenzhen and Boston. He continued his studies at The Juilliard School, Yale University, and is currently studying at Northwestern University as a doctoral candidate. His teachers include Eleanor Wong, Galyna Popova, Keng Zhou, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Hung-Kuan Chen, and James Giles.
